Senior Healthcare Planner

Location: Charlotte, NC

Perkins Eastman is currently seeking a talented and experienced individual to be a Senior Healthcare Planner in our Charlotte, NC office to help lead and expand our Healthcare practice and capabilities in the local and regional markets. This position will work as an advocate for our clients, meet directly with stakeholders, and develop design responses that align with their goals. This individual must be deeply familiar with the FGI, healthcare delivery models and trends, operational imperatives, and the implications of evidence based research. As design responses are initiated, they must collaborate and coordinate with the entire design team, including designers, technical architects, engineers, equipment planning, and others. As a thought leader in the industry, they will contribute to the leadership of the healthcare architecture practice by participating in the development of strategic initiatives and provide mentorship to the members within the studio and project teams

Perkins Eastman Charlotte Office provides clients full design services from strategy, to programming and planning, to high-performance buildings with design excellence across a variety of practice areas in the local and regional market. This position will be a key leader in the office, working with the current leadership and talent to help continue to grow our presence and capabilities in Charlotte and the region.

What You Will Do:

  • Work directly with the Firmwide Healthcare Leaders, Regional Directors, and Office/Studio Leaders to help vision and grow the market and office Participate in business development activities, efforts and events.

  • In collaboration with other leaders in the Practice Area, leverage the capabilities of the Firm and help build the practice within the office and region.

  • Work as an advocate for our clients, meet directly with stakeholders, and develop design responses that align with their goals.

  • Lead all aspects of healthcare planning, scalable from simple renovations to large, complex projects.

  • Participate in the development of work plans and schedules for both projects and marketing pursuits with Project Managers.

  • Develop design responses that align with the Client’s financial goals for the project.

  • Recruit, develop, and mentor talent to continue to grow the Charlotte office team and work on projects.
  • Lead a team in the development of each project’s behavioral, aesthetic, and technical performance goals, including initiating schematic designs/plans.
  • Provide planning guidance throughout the early and development stages of design.

  • Assist in preparation of presentations, drawings, models and narratives.

  • Participate in marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.

  • Coordinate with all other team members on project assignments.


  • Minimum 15 years of experience on relevant projects that would enhance the Firm’s capabilities and positioning in the Healthcare market sectors both locally and regionally.
  • Experience leading project teams to program, conceptualize, and document projects within the market sector.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
  • Proven ability to apply critical thinking, influence, and decision making.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplined teams.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of healthcare architecture planning and design

  • Excellent writing, speaking, and public presentation skills.
  • Exceptional skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint required.
  • Experienced in AutoCAD, Revit and Sketch-up advantageous, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Interior Design, or related profession.
  • Advance credentials preferred (e.g. ACHA, EDAC, etc.)

  • LEED Accreditation preferred.
  • A commitment to the principles of sustainable design and experience integrating them on specific projects.
  • Versatile, self-motivated and articulate.
  • Knowledge and experience with local and regional jurisdictions, including familiarity within South Carolina and Georgia

  • Available to travel within the SE Region.
  • Passion for being part of a growing team devoted to having an impact through design.
